Davenport Panorama House

This renovation and addition to an early 20th century home is intended to marry the new with the old, traditional and modern, into a warm and informally elegant interior. The zinc and Ipe wood clad addition wraps the back of the house, and the main living spaces enjoy broad views from an elevated position on a sloping hilltop lot. The wraparound deck also provides a measure of screening for family members so that a feeling of privacy is maintained, but the views remain unobstructed. The three main floors of the house are tied together with a new floating steel and walnut staircase. This project allowed for an exploration of the challenge of combining the needs of contemporary life with the familiar elements of older traditional homes, and is a reflection of the contrasting and shared tastes of the two owners.
